Industry Standard: "China Cotton" Sustainable Production Standard Officially Implemented

"China cotton" sustainable production group standard mainly includes cotton sustainable production, resources and environmental protection, quality and traceability, occupational health and safety and other key content. Different from pure cotton production technology standard, the standard pays more attention to the management and use of pesticide, chemical fertilizer, plastic film and other chemicals in the process of sustainable production; In terms of resources and environment protection, water injection, soil health, biodiversity protection and greenhouse gas emission reduction are more concerned.  

China's cotton production ranks in the forefront of the world, and it is also a major textile country in the world. There are more than 160 million cotton farmers and industrial workers engaged in cotton, cotton spinning and upstream and downstream industries, all over the northwest inland cotton region, the Yellow River Basin cotton region and the Yangtze River Basin cotton region. "China cotton" sustainable production group standard has carried out pilot projects in the above areas, and has attracted the first batch of 6 production partners.

Wang Jianhong, vice president and Secretary General of China Cotton Association: in the last cotton year, nearly 90000 tons of lint were produced in accordance with the sustainable production specification of the project. The project includes the concepts of environmental friendliness, good quality and full traceability, so as to better safeguard the interests of China's cotton farmers and textile industry practitioners through their own sustainable projects and standards.
