Recently, the Kampuchea Garment Manufacturers Association (GMAC), Kampuchea Footwear Industry Association (CFA) and Kampuchea European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) have recently written to the European Commission to request the European Commission to extend all preferential tax exemption (EBA) except weapons for 12 months.

Kampuchea Garment Manufacturers Association, Kampuchea footwear industry association and Kampuchea EU Chamber of Commerce said that the new crown pneumonia epidemic disrupted production activities and reduced global demand, causing serious losses to Kampuchea's clothing, shoemaking and travel products manufacturing industries.

Production activities in 250 garment enterprises in Kampuchea were stagnated, and more than 130 thousand workers (mostly female workers) were unemployed.

In the first quarter of this year, many customers in Kampuchea cancelled orders for garments, footwear and travel products. Therefore, the sales volume of the above products will drop by 50%-60% compared with the same period last year.

Van Sou Ieng, chairman of the Kampuchea Garment Manufacturers Association, believes that if the EU insists on withdrawing part of EBA preferential treatment in Kampuchea in August 12th, the industry will be "worse."

Arnaud Darc, chairman of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Kampuchea, said the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia had a serious impact on the global economy, including Kampuchea. The EU is Kampuchea's largest trading partner. In 2018, the total volume of Kampuchea's exports to the EU accounted for 45% of the total merchandise exports of the country, valued at $5 billion 500 million.
