"Wearing a flip flop for a long time may cause discomfort in the feet and legs," Yang Changjie, director of Orthopaedics and traumatology department of Chinese medicine hospital, told reporters.



Director Yang said that the distortion and pressure on feet caused by the construction of "flip flops" is very unhealthy.

He introduces that the sole of the flip flops is generally thin, which does not have a great bearing force on the sole of the foot. When walking, it will cause the feet to feel the reverse force from the ground, and the load that the feet need to bear will also increase, which will easily lead to plantar fasciitis.

In addition, the flip flops have only two thin ribbons, and the "human" shaped part is used to bind the toes.

In order to pinch the shoes more firmly, the toes will unconsciously tighten and curl up to "grab" the soles.

This distorted state will lead to tendon strain under the toes.


"Our hospital has also encountered patients with long plantar fasciitis caused by long time wearing flip flops, but no one has ever seen a skeleton injury due to wearing a flip flop. This statement is too exaggerated and has no scientific basis to support it."

It is best not to wear a flip flop for more than 1 hours.


Yang Changjie suggested that the general public should not wear long flip flops for long.

"You should take a break after walking for more than 1 hours. Do not wear flip flops when traveling.

In addition, it should be noted that the flip flops should be replaced in the next 3-4 months as the sports shoes. If the shoes are worn and skewed, they must be replaced in time.


Yang Changjie said that if the wearing of flip flops is too long for foot and leg discomfort, you can use the brine to make a "foot bath" for yourself. For 10-15 minutes, it helps relieve foot discomfort, promotes blood circulation of the ankle and calf, stretches the muscles and veins, and improves the stiffness of the lower extremities.
